Midwest Ophthalmologic Symposium

The Retina Institute in conjunction with the Retina Research & Development Foundation was pleased to present and sponsor The Midwest Ophthalmologic Symposium featuring The 40th Annual Visiting Professor Lecture Series. The conference was held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the Ritz-Carlton in St. Louis.

This year’s meeting featured Visiting Professor, Raymond Iezzi, MD, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Iezzi’s talks included The Seslen Lecture: How Artificial Intelligence May Change the Ways we Practice. He also delivered the presentations How Artificial Intelligence May Change the Ways we Practice and Current Concepts in the Treatment of Macular Holes.

Also joining the program was Peter Veldman, MD, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences from the University of Chicago School of Medicine. Dr. Veldman topics included: Evidence Based Endothelial Rehabilitation and Ocular Trauma: Lessons Learned.

Our final guest speaker was Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Company Board of Directors member, Gaurav K. Shah, MD, from West Coast Retina in San Francisco, California. Dr. Shah presented the OMIC symposium titled Lessons Learned: When Safety Protocols Fail.
